How to choose a Microfilm or Microfiche Scanner?

The first question has to be about the application. What do you with to accomplish with the microfilm scanner?

For most users, the answer is that they are replacing an aging Reader Printer that is needed to access their microfilm records. In this case, the user simply needs a reliable system to be able to view, print and capture images digitally as needed. This most common application does not need the most expensive or highest resolution model available, just a quality system that will let them access their film as needed and make prints for image files for distribution. In this case, the Micro-Image Capture 7 would be a great choice >> MIC7

The Micro-Image Capture 7 is the base model of the series designed for use with 16mm images on fiche and microfilm rolls. The MIC7 is only $3,275.00 new and comes with a 1 year repair or replace warranty. It comes with a 7-54X lens, footswitch, software, cables and instructions.

The Micro-Image Capture 7 is also available as a universal motorized roll film model which adds a motorized roll film carrier for 16 & 35mm microfilm on rolls and still retains the fiche carrier so you can also work with fiche, jackets and AP cards. The MIC7M sells for $4,975.00

For some users, the answer is they need to digitally archive their microfiche and microfilm images, converting them to searchable PDF’s or they have engineering images that are on 35MM Aperture Cards or on 35MM film which would include Newspaper film found in many libraries. This customer will need the top of the line Micro-Image Capture 8.

The Micro-Image Capture 8 is the ultra high resolution model with a 20MP Sony USB 3.0 imager capable of delivering high resolution images from 16mm and 35mm microfiche and microfilm images as well as aperture cards. This model is ideal for users that want to archive digital images, convert them to searchable PDF’s or  have Engineering drawing, maps, blueprints or other large 35mm images like those of Newspaper Microfilm. The MIC8 for flat media costs $3,975.00 and the Universal Motorized MIC8M for fiche, AP cards, 16 &35mm microfilm on rolls is only $5,650.00

For a select few users, the answer is they have a microfiche or microfilm library that they wish to convert to digital files. This customer needs an automated, high speed scanner in order to produce the throughput required to scan their entire records library. High speed microfiche and microfilm scanners can cost $40,000 - $60,000 new and about half that price for pre-owned refurbished systems.
